Devaney hoping to prove his worth

Martin Devaney is determined to use his time at Walsall to prove his doubters wrong. The 30-year-old winger signed an initial one-month loan deal with the Saddlers on Thursday and immediately contributed with a man-of-the-match display, which included an assist for Walsall`s second goal, as they ended an eight-match winless streak with a 2-1 victory over Exeter on Saturday. Devaney has found first-team opportunities limited at parent club Barnsley since Mark Robins` arrival last year, and he has not ruled out the prospect of a longer stay at the Banks`s Stadium as he looks to show what he has to offer. "I'm delighted (with my debut)," he told Saddlers Player. "It came to a point where I had to get out and play and get in people`s minds. I definitely need first-team football. I`ve been out of the picture since Mark Robins took over at Barnsley, I haven`t played much football at all under him. "Maybe I`m out to prove a point to a few people, not myself because I know what I can do. But Saturday was great, to get man of the match and to get an assist, and just be a little flea in Robins' ear." Asked about extending his stay, Devaney replied: "We'll just see how it goes. Obviously Saturday was magnificent but there's going to be ups and downs in the next few games. So we'll see what happens."
