Deeney seals Watford move
Watford have confirmed the signing of Walsall striker Troy Deeney in a £500,000 deal. The 22-year-old has agreed a two-year contract with the Hornets, who have the option of an additional year.Deeney, released by Aston Villa as a youngster, netted 14 times for the League One side last season. He arrived at the Banks's Stadium from non-league outfit Chelmsley Town in 2006 and made 132 appearances, scoring 27 goals.Boss Chris Hutchings told the club`s official website: "Watford's interest in Troy has been no secret. They made a number of bids for him, none of which were deemed acceptable until they came in with an improved offer [on Thursday night]."Through his agent, Troy had made his position quite clear by handing in a transfer request. However, we were not prepared to let the player leave unless the deal was the right one for the club, which is why we rejected all of Watford's previous bids."A fee has now been agreed, which we are satisfied with, and, after ensuring we prepare properly for the opening game of the season, my attention will turn to bringing in a replacement for the outgoing player. With the speculation regarding Troy, we have been busy identifying targets, which we will now pursue further."
