Deeney extends Saddlers stay

Walsall striker Troy Deeney has penned a new two-year contract at the Bescot Stadium.

The 21-year-old was rewarded for a string of impressive displays last season, which included 12 goals.

But he is yet to get his goal tally up and running this term and is immediately aiming to end the dry spell by firing the Saddlers up the League One ladder.

"I am very pleased to have my immediate future sorted out," he told the club's official website.

"Having just become a father, this was important to me and now I just want to concentrate on my football and progress.

"It's time for me to start scoring goals now," he admitted.

"Things are looking good for us; we've got a solid base on which to build and have some good young local lads coming through, which is good for the club and good for the youth lads coming through.

"My aim is to be top scorer for the next two years. I want to get my first of the season and then kick on from there."
