Andy Butler scooped Walsall`s Player of the Year award at a celebratory end-of-season dinner after the club clinched their League One survival on the final day of the campaign. The Saddlers skipper only arrived at the Banks's Stadium in mid-November, signing as a free agent having been released by Huddersfield last summer. Nevertheless, Butler claimed 57.8% of the votes polled by Walsall Football Supporters Club, with James Walker taking 15.3%, Matt Richards 13.2% and Jon Macken 9%. The centre-back also walked away with the Players' Player of the Season award to cap a marvellous six months, while young player of the season went to striker Will Grigg. Darren Byfield walked away with goal of the season for his long-range strike in the 3-2 defeat at Rochdale in September.
