Walsall chairman Jeff Bonser is backing his club to mount a promotion challenge next season, despite a quiet start to the summer for the Saddlers.
A number of players have departed the Bescot Stadium since the end of last term, with Jimmy Mullen having taken on the manager's job following the exit of Richard Money.
Bonser told the Express & Star: "We want to build a team that is competitive and hopefully we can force our way into the Championship.
"I see no reason why we shouldn't do that, because three years out of the last seven we've been in there, so we can do it again.
"We are talking to a lot of players at the moment and over the next few weeks they will start arriving at the club."
