Walsall boss Richard Money has urged Tony Bedeau to be patient after admitting the former Torquay striker may not face his old employers on Saturday.
Bedeau made almost 250 appearances for the Devon club during nine years at Plainmoor and was Money's first signing when he arrived at the Bescot in the summer.
But the 27-year-old's time with the Saddlers has been interrupted by injury and Bedeau may have to be content with a place on the bench at the weekend.
"After missing most of pre-season through injury, Tony has been playing catch-up ever since," Money told the club's official website.
"He has been patient so far and will need to continue working hard to stake his claim.
"The fact that we are playing his former club won't have any bearing on my team selection, but, of course, he will be determined to do well if he gets an opportunity, just as he would in any game."
