Captain Aaron Ramsey has challenged Wales to showcase their new-found self-belief when they meet Switzerland in tonight's Euro 2012 qualifier at the Liberty Stadium.
After a miserable start to the Group G campaign, which saw them suffer four straight defeats, Gary Speed's side showed a marked improvement with victory over Montenegro and a good display in a 1-0 defeat against England last month, meaning they can still finish as high as third in the final standings.
Arsenal midfielder Ramsey said: "Belief is the main difference (following last month's games). There is a belief we can actually compete against this sort of opposition."
He added: "Montenegro had done really well to be in their position in the group and against England we should have had a result. We have always had the ability but it is about being more consistent and hopefully we can start to pick up a few more points.
"Switzerland are a good team with a chance of qualifying so they will come out and give everything, but we will concentrate on ourselves and hopefully build on what we have done in the last few performances, keep the progression going and pick up a few wins.
"Our target now is to finish as high as possible and hopefully we can build in every game before the World Cup qualifiers next year."
Ramsey is set to be joined in the Wales midfield by Swansea's Joe Allen due to the absence through injury of Joe Ledley.
Andy King and Jack Collison are also ruled out while David Edwards has only recently returned from a spell on the sidelines and David Vaughan is suffering with tonsilitis - but Speed says Allen, who was named Wales' Young Footballer of the Year earlier this week, richly deserves his first start.
The former Sheffield United boss said: "He's made the step up.
"The ability has always been there with Joe but he has shown this year he can move up to the Premier League. He was man of the match against Stoke, who are all big lads but he handled it. It was only a matter of time before Joe progressed and I think he has done very nicely."
