Geraint Williams is to leave his post as Wales Under-21 manager.

The Football Association of Wales confirmed that Williams will not have his contract renewed as intermediate manager, which has seen him take charge of age group teams from under-17s through to the 21s.

The former Derby and Ipswich midfielder has been in his post since 2012.

Both the Wales Under-21 and Under-19 squads recently missed out on qualification for respective European tournaments.

In a statement released by the FAW, Williams said: " It has been a privilege to work for my country over the past four-and-a-half years.

"Everyone has played their part on and off the field. I take great delight in our work and the development of all the intermediate squads.

"I would also like to thank all the parents and adults at all the different age levels for their support. But most of all I would like to thank the proud, passionate young men who played for their country."

The FAW also confirmed that intermediate assistant coach David Hughes has left his role to join the academy set-up at Championship club Aston Villa.
