Gareth Bale among Wales substitutes for Sweden friendly

Gareth Bale was among the Wales substitutes for their friendly with Sweden after manager Chris Coleman confirmed the Real Madrid forward would play no more than 45 minutes before the start of Euro 2016.

Joe Allen, Joe Ledley and Hal Robson-Kanu were all missing in Stockholm through injury, so David Vaughan, Andy King and Sam Vokes started as Wales named seven of the side which began the 1-0 defeat to Ukraine in March.

Sweden skipper Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned for the hosts after calf trouble, the Manchester United target one of six changes to the side which played out a goalless draw against Slovenia on Monday.

This was Wales' only pre-Euro 2016 warm-up game as Coleman had wanted to spend more time with his players on the training ground before the tournament in France.

Sweden had played six days earlier but, like Wales, they had failed to win any of their previous three games and were also in need of a confidence boost before the Euros.

History was not on Wales' side as they had lost their last five matches to Sweden since holding the hosts to a goalless draw at the 1958 World Cup.

Ibrahimovic dropped into deep positions in the early moments as Sweden forced the pace and it was the two full-backs, Martin Olsson and Mikael Lustig, who had the first sights of goal.

Olsson fired wide from acute angle inside the opening 60 seconds and Lustig headed over Kim Kallstrom's corner, before Ashley Williams took up a superb position to block Marcus Berg's goalbound effort.

Wales finally began to get possession to slow Swedish attacks, but Ibrahimovic gave them a warning when he received Oscar Lewicki's pass 20 yards out and curled a shot just wide of the far post.

David Vaughan's rash challenge on Emil Forsberg on the edge of the area presented Ibrahimovic with the sort of free-kick opportunity he relishes.

But this time Ibrahimovic's radar was off and his free-kick was blocked by Sam Vokes in the Wales wall, the striker seemingly taking his frustrations out on Vaughan who he almost immediately sent crashing to the turf.

Vaughan was fine to continue, but Jonathan Williams needed lengthier treatment after taking a cross from Olsson flush in the face.

Sweden fans were screaming for a penalty after 35 minutes when Berg's cross struck James Chester, but the German referee Tobias Weisz waved away their appeals for handball.

The Wales defence, however, was breached five minutes later as Ibrahimovic pounced on a mix-up on the visitors' right and advanced to the edge of the area.

The striker had the presence of mind to roll the ball into the path of Forsberg and the midfielder found the corner of the net from 20 yards.

INTRO: Sweden seized the advantage against Wales in their pre-Euro 2016 friendly in Stockholm as Emil Forsberg struck five minutes before the break.

Forsberg placed his shot into the corner of the net after Sweden skipper Zlatan Ibrahimovic found him with a delightful pass on the edge of the area.

There were few shots on goals before Forsberg's strike, Ibrahimovic sending one shot just wide, while Wales failed to create a meaningful chance with Gareth Bale kept in reserve on the bench.
