Coleman: No rift with Ramsey
Published : 30 Aug 2012 10:10:00

Chris Coleman says his relationship with Aaron Ramsey has not suffered as a result of his attempt to persuade Ryan Shawcross to play for Wales. Wales boss Coleman met with the Stoke defender last week with a view to recruiting him to the Wales squad before their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign gets under way next month against Belgium and Serbia. However, former England Under-21 international Shawcross, who is also eligible to play for the Dragons, refused the opportunity to switch allegiances, committing his future to the Three Lions. The 24-year-old's Wales snub means he will not be linking up with Arsenal midfielder Ramsey, whose leg was broken in 2010 as a result of a tackle by Shawcross. Coleman is adamant his approach of Shawcross has not damaged his relationship with the skipper. He said: "I don't have any concerns about my relationship with Aaron - I think he said himself it was my decision, which it was. "Aaron is our captain and it was right that I told him what I wanted to do. "In the end it has all been academic because Ryan has decided he still wants to throw his lot in with England."
