Wales manager Chris Coleman admitted his side will have no hope of reaching the 2014 World Cup if they repeat their poor performance in a 2-0 defeat to Bosnia-Herzegovina in Llanelli.
Coleman is still searching for his first win in charge after goals from Veded Ibisevic and Miroslav Stevanovic gave the visitors a thoroughly deserved victory at Parc-y-Scarlets on Wednesday evening.
He said: "There are not many positives we can take from that. It was a disappointing performance, we are a lot better than that, we know that. If we are not, we will not be going anywhere. I am disappointed, it's difficult for the players it's the start of the season for many of them and it was a tough game."
Coleman had highlighted the importance of the fixture as it represented his last chance to prepare before the serious business of qualification gets under way against Belgium on September 7.
But on the basis of an error-strewn performance which saw Wales struggle to create, Joe Allen hitting the post with their best chance, while looking all at sea at the back, there is an awful lot of work to be done.
Coleman went on: "We looked rusty and nervous for some reason but I am not going to take anything away from Bosnia, they are a classy side, a very good side. But we can be better, we were naive at times and a bit tentative which showed with the first goal and it was like that for most of the evening."
Coleman was able to field Gareth Bale for the first time since taking charge, but that was offset by his decision to leave Craig Bellamy on the bench following his recent exertions with Team GB and move to Cardiff from Liverpool.
Coleman said: "We could not start with Craig, he has had a lot going on and he has a game on Friday night for Cardiff who are starting their season. So we need to try and play the game with the clubs. He is playing on Friday, he has had an on-off move to Cardiff over the last 10 days and done a lot of travelling."
Bosnia coach Safet Susic was delighted with his side's performance and hailed their quality.
He said: "The game as wide open, there were plenty of chances for both sides when the score was 0-0. They hit the post and had another chance but when we scored the first goal I was sure we would win. We have a team that's very strong technically with good players who play for some of the best teams in Europe."
