Villarreal swoop for Montero

Ecuador starlet Jefferson Montero has agreed a deal to join Villarreal in the summer.

The 19-year-old midfielder had been in negotiations with Real Madrid but has now agreed a five-year contract in principle at El Madrigal.

"Now that Villarreal has made an official announcement I can also talk about my transfer," said Montero.

"I have finally been transferred to Villarreal because the negotiations with Real Madrid failed.

"For what I have been told I will be signing a five-year contract and I will be joining my new team in July.

"This is a very important step in my career. I had never imagined that at my age I was going to have the chance to be transferred to European football.

"I also know that I will have to work very hard because Villarreal has very good players of a great quality."
