Veteran Senna leaves Villarreal for USA
Former Spanish international Marcos Senna has ended his 11-year stay at Villarreal to continue his playing career in the United States.
"The Spanish-Brazilian, an authentic symbol of the Yellow Submarine and a protagonist in the growth of the club, has accepted a new challenge both on a sporting and personal level and next season will play in the United States," said a statement on the club's website on Wednesday.
Senna has represented the club more than anyone else with 363 appearances in all competitions and was part of the side that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2006 on their first ever season in the competition.
The 36-year-old also played a crucial role in the first of Spain's recent major triumphs at international level as the naturalised Brazilian started five of the six games in their Euro 2008 victory.
And there was one last success in Senna's time with the Yellow Submarine this season; after the disappointment of being relegated last year, they bounced straight back into the top-flight as Sunday's 1-0 win over Almeria secured automatic promotion.
