Valverde installed at El Madrigal

Villarreal have moved quickly to name Manuel Pellegrini's successor, with Ernesto Valverde being appointed as the Yellow Submarine's new coach.

The 45-year-old has agreed a one-year deal at El Madrgial, with the option of a further 12 months.

Valverde coached Athletic Bilbao and Espanyol before helping Olympiacos clinch the league and Greek Cup double in the season just ended.

He led Espanyol to the UEFA Cup final two years ago, but left the club 12 months ago after a dramatic downturn in form saw them slip from the top-four to mid-table.

Pellegrini spent five years with Villarreal before being confirmed as Real Madrid's new coach on Tuesday.
