Tomas Pina: Villarreal can take nothing for granted

Villarreal midfielder Tomas Pina has warned his team-mates they can take nothing for granted as they attempt to edge past Serie A title contenders Napoli into the Europa League's last 16.

The Spanish side will head for the Stadio San Paolo on Thursday evening holding a 1-0 first-leg lead after becoming the first side to beat the Italians in the competition this season.

However, Pina is well aware that Denis Suarez's 82nd-minute free-kick will only see them through to the next round if they are at their best in Naples.

He told the club's official website, www.villarrealcf.es: "Villarreal is getting back to playing at the highest level in Europe. We are in the best times of the club.

"If we get through to the next round though, it will turn even more heads and show that Villarreal want to live great nights in Europe again.

"We are a difficult opponent, above all because we are so solid at the back. Recently it's difficult to unsettle us, but this is football and anything can happen. In a match of this calibre, if you don't go out at 100 per cent, they'll make you pay for it.

"We're fourth and they're fighting for the title in Italy. It's not a typical Round of 32 tie. It was drawn this way and it's the game we have to play. It is, without a doubt, a high-flying fixture."

Villarreal, who are unbeaten in seven games in all competitions, have scored in each of their last 11 away European fixtures and a continuation of that record would give them every chance of reaching the last 16.

However, last season's beaten semi-finalists Napoli, who emerged from the group stage with maximum points, are still smarting from their reverse in Spain last week and have not lost a home game in European competition in 16 attempts.

It will be their 100th game in the UEFA Cup and Europa League and despite the fact that they are without a win in three outings, they remain confident as they continue their domestic pursuit of leaders Juventus, who currently head them by a single point.

Coach Maurizio Sarri told the club's official website, www.sscnapoli.it: "If the team continues to express itself with application and determination, it will collect positive results soon."
