Ricardo 'stable' after stroke
The condition of Vasco da Gama manager Ricardo was described as "stable" here Tuesday 10 days after he suffered a stroke on the bench as he watched his team play rival Brazilian side Flamengo in a league match.
The 46-year-old felt unwell during the second half of the league tie and was rushed to the Pasteur Hospital, in Rio de Janeiro, in an ambulance after receiving medical care in the stadium.
Ricardo, the former coach of French clubs PSG, Monaco and Bordeaux, was placed in an artificial coma following the stroke on August 28.
Doctors say his condition has since improved and he is in a "stable condition in intensive care".
Born in 1964 in Rio, Ricardo played for Fluminense, Paris Saint Germain and Portuguese giants Benfica and made 48 appearances for Brazil.
After his managerial spell in France he returned to his homeland to coach Sao Paulo FC before moving to Vasco da Gama.
