Soriano leaves Los Che post

Valencia president Vicente Soriano has resigned after a year at the helm which has been marked by huge financial problems.

Soriano took over a dire situation at the Mestalla and has admitted defeat in his attempts to turn the club's fortunes around, meaning that star players such as David Villa and David Silva are almost certain to be sold this summer.

"I go with a dagger in my heart because I have not been able to reorganise the club. I go with a clear conscience though," Soriano told Marca.

"Selling our stars might cover the holes, but it will not solve the situation.

"Since the day I became president, I have been struggling to achieve economic and sporting viability for the club.

"Today, despite having a plan in progress, I have not fully succeeded."
