    Los Che keep winning habit

    06 Oct 2008 - 12:42:48

Valencia continued their excellent start to the season with a 1-0 win at Real Valladolid that lifted them back to the top of the La Liga table.

A superb second-half strike by Manuel Fernandes proved to be the only difference between the two teams as Unai Emery's side made it five wins from six matches so far this season.

Unbeaten Sevilla won for the fourth game in a row as they crushed Athletic Bilbao 4-0 at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Frederic Kanoute, Renato, Adriano and Ernesto Chevanton were all on target for Manolo Jimenez's third-placed side.

Real Madrid had to settle for a point from a 2-2 draw with Espanyol as they slipped to fifth. Raul Tamudo and Luis Garcia twice put Espanyol ahead only for Raul to grab two equalisers for Real.

The game between Getafe and Almeria also ended 2-2. After a goalless first half, Getafe looked to be heading for their first home win of the season when substitute Ikechuwku Uche and captain Javi Casquero netted.

However, sixth-placed Almeria rescued a point thanks to late goals by Alvaro Negredo and Chico.

After losing their first five games of the season, Sporting Gijon moved off the foot of the table by beating Real Mallorca 2-0, Carmelo Gonzalez and Roberto Canella getting on the scoresheet.

Juan Valera's last-gasp goal helped Racing Santander beat Osasuna 1-0, while Malaga thrashed Huelva 4-0 to move into mid-table.

Portuguese striker Eliseu Pereira opened the scoring after only 38 seconds and further goals by Nabil Baha and Sergio Duda made it 3-0. A second goal by Eliseu completed the rout.

Angel Lafita's goal was enough to give Deportivo La Coruna only their second victory of the campaign as they beat Numancia 1-0.
