Fernandes vows Valencia focus

Portugal midfielder Manuel Fernandes has vowed to focus on the job in hand at Valencia after seeing a move to Internazionale fall through on transfer deadline day.

The 23-year-old had hoped for a fresh start at the San Siro, but now wants to knuckle down and help Los Che maintain their loft position in La Liga.

He told Super Deporte: "I will work hard and be prepared to help the team achieve our goals, like the first day I came here.

"I wanted to try to have more minutes at another club and joining Inter was a good choice for everyone, but for me it's already forgotten.

"I am totally focused on doing my best and being prepared to help the team achieve our goals as early as possible."

Meanwhile, Valencia captain Carlos Marchena has put thoughts of contract talks to the back of his mind, despite his current deal running out at the end of the season.

He told reporters: "It isn't the right time, or a priority, or necessary to talk about it. I will be at Valencia until the club wants otherwise."
