Suarez To Miss World Cup Due To Training Injury

England’s chances to qualify to the next round are looking a lot better as Luis Suarez is set to undergo surgery on his knee and is a major doubt for any World Cup action.

Suarez reportedly felt discomfort in his knee while training with the national team last night. After undergoing several tests, it was revealed that his meniscus had suffered some damage.

The Liverpool striker was reportedly set for surgery this morning but the Uruguay camp are confident that they can help him recover in time to head to Brazil with the rest of the team.

Uruguay have been placed in Group D along with Italy, England, and Costa Rica. Their first match is scheduled to Costa Rica on June 14. Yet according to reports, recovery from a meniscus procedure usually takes anywhere between 4-6 weeks.

Uruguayan coach Oscar Tabarez still has good choices to choose from. Undoubtedly, Suarez’s absence will be a heavy blow but strikers like Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan are available.

Forlan, who impressed after leading Uruguay to 3rd place in the 2010 World Cup, was expected to start more on the bench than on the pitch but now it looks like the 35-year old will have a more active role.
