Edinson Cavani received a red card yesterday in the Copa America quarter-final against Chile, and everyone’s feeling quite sympathetic towards him.
Chile defender Gonzalo Jara appeared to poke Cavani somewhere rather delicate, causing Cavani to flick out a hand for which he received a second yellow card.
The match officials caught Cavani’s reaction but the referee was at the wrong angle to see the poking that went on beforehand.
I don't blame Cavani for slapping him. Absolute filthiness from Jara. pic.twitter.com/Ev4xllkENR

Uruguay actually ended the match with nine men, after Jorge Fucile was sent off late on, and the Copa America holders were sent home while hosts Chile go through to the semi-finals.
It’s not the first time Jara has caused controversy against Uruguay either. In 2013 Luis Suarez punched him during a World Cup qualifier, after Jara reportedly grabbed his genitals.
A number of people are calling what Jara did sexual assault, and calling for him to be banned.
If Suarez got a huge suspension for biting, surely Jara should be punished for sexually harassing Cavani

So really, Cavani got a red for reacting the way any normal person would to this? WTF IS THIS. Not cool. pic.twitter.com/xBuFQ1gSqa

Chile will now face the winner of Friday’s game between Boliva and Peru, but it’s unclear whether any retrospective action will be taken against Jara.
