South American rivals Chile and Uruguay both enjoyed comfortable friendly victories over Zambia and Israel respectively.

Marcelo Bielsa's Chile, who are grouped with Spain, Honduras and Switzerland at the World Cup, started slowly but made a second-half improvement to beat Zambia 3-0. Winger Alexis Sanchez came off the bench to net two second half goals before captain Jorge Valdivia sealed the win late on.

Fellow finals qualifiers Uruguay, meanwhile, were more impressive in overcoming Israel 4-1. Diego Forlan's 14th minute strike was pegged back by Lior Rafaelov, but Oscar Tabárez watched his side romp home through Alvaro Pereira and a Sebastian Abreu brace.
