Ukraine will build around 80 new hotels for Euro 2012, vice-prime minister Boris Kolesnikov told AFP on Wednesday, as organisers tried to reassure fans that accommodation at next summer's showpiece will not be a problem.

"From April 2007 to next May, between 70 and 80 hotels should be built," said Kolesnikov, who did not give any information on the progress of the work.

Private investors will fund the construction costing between 20 and 50 million dollars for each hotel "making over two billion dollars in total".

Worries over adequate accommodation in Ukraine's four host cities -- Kiev, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Lviv -- have caused worries for organisers.

"The building and refurbishment of hotels is progressing at an accelerated rhythm in all the cities, but Donetsk is the most serious challenge," a local organising committee spokesman told AFP.

"Due to a lack of high-end rooms, it's expected that hotel rooms in the countryside will have to be used."

Ukraine is sharing the finals with Poland which run from June 8 until July 1.
