Turkey fail in Volkan appeal

Volkan Demirel will miss Wednesday's semi-final with Germany after Turkey failed with an appeal to overturn the goalkeeper's two-game suspension.
Volkan missed Friday's quarter-final win over Croatia after being sent off for pushing Jan Koller in stoppage time of their dramatic final Group A victory over Czech Republic.
The Turkish FA were hopeful of successfully appealing the original two-game suspension and being able to call upon the Fenerbahce goalkeeper for the last-four meeting with Germany, but number two Rustu Recber is now set to play in Basel on Wednesday.
The news comes as a further blow to coach Fatih Terim, who could be without up to nine members of his squad for the last-four clash.
Nihat Kahveci and Emre Gungor have already been ruled out of the tournament through injury, while Servet Cetin, Tumer Metin and Emre Belozoglu are all struggling to be fit.
Meanwhile, Volkan, Sanli Tuncay, Arda Turan and Emre Asik are all suspended.
