Turkey will be without their captain Emre for Wednesday's crucial Group A match against Switzerland.
The midfielder, who has agreed to leave Newcastle United and sign for Fenerbahce later this summer, has torn a hamstring muscle, and may also miss the final group game against Czech Republic.
Turkey coach Fatih Terim said: "He has a 3-4cms tear in his muscle and was sent for an MRI in Basel on Tuesday and the news was not good.
"He might also miss our last group game. That is what our doctors think but we are trying to have him back.
"Unfortunately, it's Frei with Switzerland and Emre with us. It is not just as simple as one player out and one player in for him, because of the role he plays."
Defensive duo Servet Cetin and Gokhan Zan are also doubts for the Switzerland match.
