Red letter day for Hoffenheim

Bundesliga leaders TSG Hoffenheim opened their new stadium on Saturday with a convincing 6-2 victory over a regional select XI.

Hoffe's first official game at the Rhein-Neckar Arena will be the Bundesliga visit of Energie Cottbus on January 31, but the new 30-000 arena saw its first action over the weekend with a comprehensive friendly victory.

Hoffenheim have been lodging at the Carl-Benz Stadion in nearby Mannheim during the first half of the season.

"We are very proud of this wonderful arena, which has found its optimal location," said club owner Dietmar Hopp.

Captain Selim Teber (2), Sejad Salihovic, Wellington (2) and Francisco Copado were all on the mark for Ralf Rangnick's side, while goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand made his debut following his arrival on a free transfer from Valencia.
