Welsh hopes to fire up Rovers

Published: 05 Aug 2009 - 14:28:32

Welsh, 25, progressed through the Liverpool youth ranks but never made the grade at Anfield and joined Hull in 2006 in a swap deal involving winger Paul Anderson. A combination of Hull's success and sheer bad luck with injuries reduced Welsh's first-team prospects greatly and last season he was sent out on loan to Chester, Carlisle and Bury. Then John Barnes came calling with the offer of a two-year contract this summer and Welsh said: "During the first conversation I had with the gaffer he told me how he wanted to play football and that he wanted to bring passion to the club. "That's similar to me because I think I'm a passionate player and I like to play football, so it was brilliant to hear that from your manager. "The fans can certainly expect passion from me. I will be going in for every 50-50 and 60-40 tackle and when I win the ball I'll try and pass it to the players who can create things and win games for us."
