Taylor eyes early return

Tranmere Rovers striker Gareth Taylor is facing a spell on the sidelines after fracturing his jaw during last weekend's goalless draw against Nottingham Forest.

Doctors have told the Wales international he will be sidelined for six weeks, but the 33-year-old intends to be back in action much sooner.

Rovers boss Ronnie Moore said: "He has been unfortunate and has two little cracks on the side of his jaw.

"The experts say he'll be out for six weeks but Gareth wants to play.

"He's got a week of doing nothing to let it settle down, and then it's down to the lad when he plays."
