Rovers win Roberts appeal

Tranmere Rovers have been boosted by the news that the Football Association have overturned the red card picked up by Gareth Roberts at Bradford in Saturday's 1-1 draw.

The left-sided player appeared to be the victim of mistaken identity at Valley Parade when referee Paul Danson issued him with a second yellow card for a challenge on a Bradford player which was actually committed by Ryan Taylor.

The club appealed against the dismissal and the FA have upheld it after reviewing the evidence and transferred the booking to Taylor which means Roberts will be available to play against Colchester at Prenton Park on Saturday.

The news will be a big boost to boss Brian Little as he was already set to be without suspended duo Mark Rankine and Iain Hume for the game.

The only sour note is that because Taylor has been handed the yellow card, he too will also be banned for the weekend's game as he has now passed through the five bookings barrier which automatically results in a one-game suspension.
