Rovers turn to Shirtliff

Tranmere Rovers have named Peter Shirtliff as the club's new assistant-manager.

The 46-year-old managed Mansfield Town for one-and-a-half seasons before losing his job last December and will assist Ronnie Moore at Prenton Park in the forthcoming campaign.

"Peter has vast experience as a player. He has learnt from some of the best managers in the country in Ron Atkinson, Graham Taylor, Trevor Francis and Dave Bassett," Moore told the club's official website.

"His coaching ability is second to none and I know him really well. He is a great addition to our backroom staff.

"He will have respect from the players and I think he will do a wonderful job for the club."
