Rovers land Thompson

Tranmere Rovers have strengthened their ranks ahead of the weekend meeting with Bournemouth by landing John Thompson on loan.

The Nottingham Forest utility man has agreed a one-month loan switch to Prenton Park and is expected to be used primarily as cover for the injured Robbie Stockdale.

"This is a great signing for the club," Rovers boss Ronnie Moore told the club's official website.

"Robbie Stockdale has a hamstring injury which will keep him out for a month so we have, with the backing of the chairman and board of directors, moved quickly to bring John in.

"He is an experienced defender who adds height and speed to the defence.

"He is capable of playing anywhere along the back and in the centre of midfield and I'm very pleased he has agreed to join us on loan."
