Tranmere Rovers have handed a new contract to highly-rated young striker Calvin Zola.

Zola, 21, has been sidelined since September through injury but is now contracted to the Prenton Park club until the summer of 2009 after impressing Rovers boss Ronnie Moore.

He told the club's official website: "Calvin has been unlucky with injuries over the two years he has been here but hopefully he's on the road to recovery.

"He's a gem of a player. He has great pace and will score. It's a chance for Calvin to make a name for himself."
