Moore steps up striker bid

Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore is continuing to scour the loan market for new strikers as he battles to cope with a lengthy injury list at Prenton Park.

The Rovers chief was forced to field teenager Steve Davies and Chris Greenacre in attack in the 0-0 draw against Swansea City as Gareth Taylor and Calvin Zola remain sidelined with respective fractured jaw and foot problems.

Moore attempted to sign Leeds United's Jermaine Beckford last week, but the youngster opted for a loan move to League One rivals Carlisle United, so he has been forced to go back to the drawing board.

He told the Daily Post: "We're down to the bare bones. We'll see how long Zola is going to be, but we've got to be looking for someone in our situation.

"We were close to getting Beckford but the deal with Carlisle was more or less done when we tried to move in. He'd have been a good player to have at this club."
