Moore bemoans Shrimpers defeat

Published: 15 Feb 2009 - 16:22:14

Theo Robinson put the home side ahead in the third minute but Ian Moore levelled from the penalty spot for play-off chasing Rovers after Dougie Freedman handled a Chris Shuker cross in the box after 62 minutes. Substitute Kevin Betsy had only been on the field for six minutes when he fired a last-gasp winner for Southend. The striker slotted home from close range following Freedman's centre from the left byline. A furious Moore said: "Conceding so early was a shock to the system and in the first half we were never at the races. I spoke to the players at half-time and told them not to use the travelling as an excuse and in the second half we held our own. "We got into the right areas but then the decisions we made with the ball were the wrong ones. The ref made some strange decisions. There was a foul on (Andy) Taylor before the first goal and we were lucky to get the penalty. "But Southend nicked a point at our place and they have nicked a win. Now we've got to pick the players up and that's the hard part because they were so near to getting a point."
