McAteer cool over recruitment

New Tranmere Rovers assistant boss Jason McAteer is content with the way things have progressed since his arrival at Prenton Park.

Manager John Barnes and number two McAteer are on the hunt for new players, a task made even more necessary following the recent departures of Antony Kay and Ben Chorley.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "We've been speaking to managers, players and agents and we're pleased with the progress we're making.

"It's vital we make sure we get the right players for the club and don't just rush in to get the first names we hear mentioned.

"We've been working hard identifying players we feel will strengthen the squad."
