Broomes sweeps into Tranmere

The centre-back, 31, began his career at Blackburn, where he made 39 appearances and won two England Under-21 caps. He joined Sheffield Wednesday in 2001 and spent time at Preston and Stoke before joining Blackpool last season. Broomes initially joined Tranmere on a non-contract basis in August and impressed in the 4-0 Carling Cup first-round victory over Grimsby.
