Broomes hoping to stay on

Tranmere's non-contract defender Marlon Broomes is hopeful of earning a permanent contract at Prenton Park.

Broomes has arrived at Prenton Park on a non-contractual agreement until the end of the month, following a release by Blackpool.

And the 31-year-old hopeful of earning a long-term contract with the League One club after a career which has largely seen him reside in the second tier of English football.

The Blackburn youth product has had spells with Preston, Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke.

"It's down to the coaching staff if they want to make that a longer contract, but I'm really enjoying my time here," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"I haven't played much football, so I'm nowhere near match fit and I feel like there's more to come from me yet.

"I'm quite comfortable playing at either full-back or centre-half, I'm sure that will stand me in good stead because I'm quite versatile and I can do a job anywhere along the back four."

Broomes figured for Tranmere in the 4-0 defeat of Grimsby in the Carling Cup on Tuesday.
