Tranmere have signed Sunderland midfielder Robbie Weir on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent transfer. The 22-year old joined the Black Cats at the age of 16 from Larne and has represented Northern Ireland at under-21 level. Rovers manager Les Parry said: "I'm really pleased Robbie has joined us for the rest of the season. "We're short of cover in midfield and Robbie will give us extra options at a time when we've got a lot of games. He can also play at right back and having someone who can play in more than one position is a real bonus to us. He'll bring us that extra bit of quality. "I'd like to thank Sunderland manager Steve Bruce for allowing Robbie to join us." Weir will be available for Tranmere's home game against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.
