Holmes banned for Rovers

Full-back Danny Holmes will be suspended as Tranmere bid to kick-start their season when Peterborough visit Prenton Park.

Rovers have picked up one point from three games, conceding eight goals in the process, and will be without Holmes for one game following his sending off in the 2-1 defeat to Crewe.

Loanee Andrai Jones filled in when Holmes was dismissed and is likely to slot in from the start but fellow defender Ian Goodison (ankle) and striker Akpo Sodje (knock) will again miss out.

Midfielders Andy Robinson and Joe Thompson missed training on Thursday due to knocks while ex-Wales international Jason Koumas (groin) is again likely to be deployed as a substitute.

Darren Ferguson is contemplating changes to his team as Peterborough look to win their first four league matches of the season for the first time since 1961.

Despite a 2-1 home win over Oldham last Saturday, Posh boss Ferguson described the performance of many of his players as "below par".

Jack Payne, Mark Little, Danny Swanson and Nathaniel Knight-Percival are in Ferguson's thoughts for the game at Prenton Park while teenage striker Jaanai Gordon will return to the squad following injury after scoring for the reserves this week.

With Payne, Little, Swanson and Knight-Percival the players coming into contention it suggests defender Kgosi Ntlhe and midfielder Daniel Kearns are the ones whose places in the starting line-up are under threat.
