Rovers sink City

Tranmere did not appear to miss suspended manager Ronnie Moore as they cruised to a 3-1 victory over Coventry.

Strikes from Ryan Lowe and Jake Kirby strikes, coupled with a Conor Thomas own goal, kept Rovers' League One survival hopes on track.

Lowe rolled home the opener from the penalty spot in the 12th minute after Matthew Pennington had been felled by Billy Daniels.

Matthew Kennedy then spurned a glorious chance to put the hosts further in front but he headed over the crossbar.

Carl Baker almost made them pay when the Coventry captain saw two stinging shots saved by Owain Fon Williams in the space of a minute before the Tranmere stopper also denied Franck Moussa on the follow-up.

Lowe found the side-netting at the other end after being played in by Jason Koumas and the Welshman was instrumental after the break when Thomas headed into his own net from Koumas' 48th-minute set-piece.

Substitute Kirby made it 3-0 after 64 minutes when he latched onto Kennedy's low cross before Michael Petrasso pulled one back for City with a low finish 11 minutes from time.
