Lowe on a high in Rovers win

Tranmere striker Ryan Lowe took his tally for the season to 12 goals as his double helped Rovers get back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Colchester at Prenton Park.

Lowe netted either side of half-time, the latter from the penalty spot after Brian Wilson brought down Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, to make it five goals in his last three games.

Clinton Morrison spun in the area to pull a goal back for the U's in stoppage-time but it was a consolation as Ronnie Moore's men bounced back from defeat to Wolves in midweek.

Jabo Ibehre squandered a good early chance for Colchester before Tranmere saw Jon Otsemobor and Ian Goodison hobble off within seven minutes of each other.

Rovers skipper James Wallace's shot was saved by U's goalkeeper Sam Walker but from the resulting corner he nodded on Chris Atkinson's delivery, allowing Lowe to stoop and head home after 32 minutes.

Jim McNulty almost turned into his own net when his defensive header dropped just past the post but Lowe doubled Rovers' lead from the spot in the 56th minute before Morrison's injury-time reply.
