Green rescues troubled Rovers

George Green scored an injury-time equaliser on his debut but struggling Tranmere still tumbled into the League Two relegation zone after their 1-1 draw at home to AFC Wimbledon.

Adebayo Akinfenwa's first-half strike looked like earning all three points for the Dons but on-loan Everton midfielder Green netted late on for Rovers - who have now won just once in eight games.

Peter Brezovan was forced into a testing save from Sean Rigg after 27 minutes before flapping at the ensuing corner as the Dons took the game to Tranmere.

And the visitors led on the half-hour mark through Akinfenwa, whose weak right-foot shot from the edge of the box took a deflection that deceived Brezovan.

Tranmere's Adam Dugdale narrowly headed wide of the post after the break following a dead ball delivery from Green.

The Everton loanee then tested Ross Worner with a fierce left-foot drive before Brezovan saved well from Jake Reeves at the other end moments later.

But Green was not done and deep into injury time he curled a stunning left-foot shot into the top corner, before picking up a booking for his celebration.
