Posh power to emphatic victory

Record signing Britt Assombalonga grabbed his fourth Peterborough goal to help Posh continue their perfect start to the League One season by thrashing 10-man Tranmere 5-0.

Tommy Rowe scored for the third time in four games to put the visitors ahead on 14 minutes when Lee Tomlin charged down Stephen Foster's clearance and his cut back was dummied by Tyrone Barnett, allowing the captain to find the top corner.

Good work from Michael Bostwick on 34 minutes allowed Barnett to extend United's lead before Andrai Jones saw red for bringing down the scorer four minutes later, with Grant McCann slotting home the resulting penalty.

Assombalonga pounced to stab home Danny Kearns' free-kick just before the hour mark and substitute Mark Little rifled in his side's fifth on 68 minutes, with Tranmere supporters greeting the end of the match with a chorus of boos.
