Savage is desperate to resume training under new manager John Barnes and echoed the excitement felt by many at the appointment.
He said: "It's healing slowly and surely. I'm out of a cast now and I'm walking again. I'm not sure when I'll be able to run - it's too early to know whether I'll be involved in pre-season or not.
"It's exciting with a new manager in, but Ronnie and Peter did a good job too. We've got to improve on last season and get promotion.
"John Barnes is a legend and he and Jason both played at the highest level so it will be interesting to work with them."
