Rovers back in JPT

Tranmere have been re-instated into the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after Accrington agreed to withdraw from the competition as punishment for fielding a suspended player in the first-round tie between the clubs. Stanley were charged, along with midfielder Ray Putterill, with fielding an ineligible player in Putterill in their last win at Prenton Park in August. Accrington pleaded guilty to the charge and, having accepted that they should not be permitted to continue in the competition, Rovers have been handed a reprieve and will now play at home to Stockport in the second round with the winner travelling to Bury in the Area Quarter Final.
