Cumbrians sink Rovers

Carlisle grabbed their first victory in four thanks to goals either side of half-time from James Berrett and Peter Murphy which sealed a 2-0 win over Tranmere. Rovers should have gone ahead in the 24th minute after Murphy tripped Ian Thomas-Moore in the area, but Thomas-Moore's spot-kick was superbly kept out by Adam Collin. Carlisle won a penalty of their own in the 37th minute when Francois Zoko tumbled in the box under Ian Goodison's challenge. But Gary Madine failed to convert his second penalty in successive games, giving Peter Gulasci the chance to clutch a weak effort low his right. Within five minutes Carlisle did find the target when Ben Marshall burst in from the right to find Zoko whose cute backheel was hammered home from 14 yards by Berrett. Carlisle sealed the points in the 49th minute when Murphy thumped home a header from 12 yards from Berrett's corner.
