Woodgate to head Down Under
04 Mar 2010 - 16:33:00
Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate is prepared to travel to Australia in an attempt to get to the bottom of his groin injury.
The 30-year-old former Leeds United, Newcastle United and Real Madrid star has made just three appearances for Spurs so far this season and recently spent two months with New York Knicks basketball team's physio Dave Hancock trying to sort out his problem.
He will now travel to Australia for further treatment, although it remains doubtful that he will play again this season.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said: "Jonathan's desperate to come back and play and I'm desperate for that, too. He's such a good player and he's hopeful about things.
"He's a great guy who just wants to play. He has to go with what he feels will help him. People don't realise what players go through when they're injured.
"They just want to play but they have these injuries which are stopping them from doing what they love. It's a nightmare for them.
"Woody would have a great chance of being in the England squad if he was able to stay free of injury for long periods, so it's so difficult for him."
