Wheeler-dealer Redknapp declares he's unlikely to swoop in transfer window
Published: 08 Jan 2010 - 10:37:43
Harry Redknapp, the master wheeler-and-dealer, hates the January transfer window and doubts if Tottenham will do any business this month because he can't improve his squad. Last January, Redknapp brought Jermaine Defoe, Robbie Keane and Pascal Chimbonda back to White Hart Lane with Wilson Palacios (Wigan) and Carlo Cudicini (Chelsea) also arriving in north London. But Redknapp said: 'This time last year we needed to do something and we did so we brought some good players in. This year it's different. I hate my phone ringing, it's a side of the game that I hate. Spurs boss: Redknapp 'It's murder when you're trying to get people in, when you're desperate and you're in a relegation battle. 'This year it's different, we're not at the bottom, we're fourth from top. The chances are very slim that I will bring anybody in. I don't have a player in mind, it hasn't even entered my mind. On top form: Jermaine Jenas 'I don't know if we're going to get into the top four but I don't know where I'm going to get anyone better. David James has been mentioned and he's a great goalkeeper, world-class but Heurelho Gomes has been fantastic, he's been in great form. 'James is not going to want to be a number two anywhere because he wants to play for England in the World Cup, so that's not a possibility. 'Where am I going to get a better central defender than Ledley King,Michael Dawson or Sebastien Bassong? I've got Jonathan Woodgate comingback as well. Where will I find somebody better than Aaron Lennon? 'Wideon the left, who am I going to find who's better than Luka Modric andNiko Kranjcar - two fantastic, top international players? 'I'vegot three terrific central midfield players. Wilson Palacios, TomHuddlestone's playing fantastic and Jermaine Jenas played the last gamefor England. 'Up front, if the strikers stay there's no problems there. I've got good players everywhere.'
