Van Gaal lined up to replace Sherwood at White Hart Lane

Speculation surrounding Tim Sherwood’s future at White Hart Lane had finally come to an end by kick-off on Monday night. In stark contrast to his usual demeanour, Sherwood was a picture of calm as his Spurs side beat Sunderland 5-1.

Following a recent meeting, Daniel Levy has seen fit to remove the burden of management from the shoulders of the well respected former academy coach.

Tottenham currently lie five points behind 4th spot with only five games to play and Everton look poised to extend that gap to seven points with their game in hand at home to Crystal Palace.

Despite the fact that Tottenham have played Champions League football once in the Premier League era, it is this apparent failure to meet Spurs’ stated objective of Champions League Qualification that has seen Sherwood’s short reign come to an end.

Club Chairman Daniel Levy’s first choice has always been current Holland coach Louis Van Gaal. He has been heavily linked with the North London Club for a number of years and is the out and out favourite to take over at White Hart Lane.

With only five Premier League games to go a couple of developments would appear to have sped up Sherwood’s premature dismissal.

Originally Van Gaal was rumoured to be holding out in case the top job at Old Trafford became available. However now that David Moyes’ immediate future seems secure he is prepared to accept an offer from Spurs.

Levy wants Van Gaal to take over as Tottenham manager directly after the 2014 Brazil World Cup. He has recently been informed that his top target is allowed to discuss terms and sign a pre-contract with Spurs before the Dutch commence their tournament preparations.

These developments around Van Gaal’s availability have inevitably hurried along the departure of Tim Sherwood who is determined to see out the rest of the current season in the Spurs hot seat.
