Tottenham 2 Sunderland 0: Black Cats robbed by Spurs after Gomes heroics

Sometimes you do not get what you deserve. Sunderland merited a victory that would have taken them above Tottenham in the table, while Darren Bent's dive for a penalty - which he took and missed - should have earned him a yellow card. Tottenham deserved nothing, yet won to offset the defeat against Stoke a fortnight ago when they had dominated the game. And Heurelho Gomes, the keeper that nobody wanted last year, transformed himself into the second coming of Pat Jennings - for a day at least.  Top stopper: Heurelho Gomes has answered last season's critics with some fine displays Take away Robbie Keane's persistence in bundling home the opening goal and a thunderous Tom Huddlestone strike and the chances and football belonged to Sunderland. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp paid tribute to Gomes and said: 'There was a time when I thought maybe he wasn't for England. But we went to Holland in the UEFA Cup and I spoke to a couple of coaches over there about him. They said he was world class. 'He is showing it. He can pull off the special saves.' To add to Sunderland's frustration goalkeeper Craig Gordon broke his arm after colliding with Jermain Defoe.  SPURS
